Growing Our Impact
Libraries and museums at Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) are cornerstones of cultural preservation, academic achievement, and community pride, offering students and faculty access to resources that reflect and honor the African American experience. IMLS has designed the Museum Grants for African American History and Culture (AAHC) program to cultivate the skills of museum professionals and strengthen capacity at these vital institutions. IMLS recognizes the transformative role HBCUs play in their communities and is committed to supporting projects that foster cultural enrichment and educational opportunities. By investing in these organizations, IMLS aims to amplify the stories, achievements, and contributions of African Americans, preserving and promoting their rich cultural heritage.
