Growing Our Impact
Libraries and museums play a vital role in African American communities, serving as spaces where history, culture, and education intersect to foster a deeper understanding of identity and legacy. IMLS understands that these institutions are essential for preserving African American heritage and providing access to a wealth of knowledge and resources that may not be readily available elsewhere, including local histories, cultural artifacts, and literature by African American authors. IMLS grant programs fund a variety of efforts, including culturally relevant programming, preservation of archives, digital access, professional development, community outreach, and educational materials that highlight African American contributions and experiences.
