Washington, DC—The Institute of Museum and Library Services is now accepting applications for American Latino Museum Internship and Fellowship Initiative grants to develop, expand and enhance museum-based internship and fellowship opportunities for students pursuing advanced studies relating to American Latino life, art, history, and culture. The deadline for submitting applications is 11:59pm ET August 7, 2023.
“We are so pleased to launch this first standalone opportunity to support the study, and interpretation of American Latino history and culture by strengthening relationships between museums and colleges and universities,” said IMLS Deputy Director of Museum Services Laura Huerta Migus.
Reflecting IMLS’s goals of championing lifelong learning and strengthening community engagement, successful projects for this grant program may:

involve engagement between Institutions of Higher Education and museums as sites for paid internship and/or fellowship opportunities.

involve cohort-based approaches to internship and fellowship design;
-
incorporate evaluation of institutional and student experience of the program;

or support documentation and publication of program design to be shared with the wider professional community.
Eligible applicants will be a college or university that is designated as an Institution of Higher Education including Hispanic-Serving Institutions in partnership with a museum; either the museum or Institution of Higher Education can be the lead applicant. Grants will be made in the range of $100,000 to $750,000. No cost share is required. For more information, please contact IMLS staff.
The American Latino Museum Internship and Fellowship Initiative is an FY 2023 funding opportunity under the National Museum of the American Latino, Educational and Liaison Programs (20 U.S.C. § 80u(f)) legislation.
