Providence Performing Arts Center
Log Number: ST-256901-OMS-24
The Providence Performing Arts Center will carry out a restoration of its 1927 Wurlitzer Opus 1587 theater organ. Known as the Voice of Providence, the organ is one of only three instruments the Rudolph Wurlitzer Company equipped (out of more than 2,200 built) with 21 ranks and an ornate five-manual console. Staff will work with a contracted restoration firm to conduct a condition assessment, clean and voice each organ pipe, restore the relays and winding system, and repair cloth and leather parts as needed. As a result of the project, the organ will be fully restored and operable for community performance events.
