Virginia Department of Historic Resources
Log Number: ST-255012-OMS-23
The Virginia Department of Historic Resources will conserve artifacts recovered from excavations associated with enslaved people living at Kingsmill and associated 17th and 18th century plantation sites. Informed by a collections assessment, the project will include creating a conservation plan for objects, the majority of which are made of metal. Curatorial and conservation staff will conserve deteriorating artifacts, rehouse objects with archival materials, and catalogue the collection. Staff will utilize the collection for exhibition purposes and will increase access to the collection for researchers, students, and educators. Project staff will also share the results of the project at a professional conference.
