Rivers of Steel Heritage Corporation

Log Number: ST-255008-OMS-23

The Rivers of Steel Heritage Corporation will repair and reassemble the last remaining 48-inch Universal Plate Mill. The mill was once a part of the Homestead Steel Works company, which produced metal for historic structures such as the Empire State Building, the Panama Canal Locks, the USS Missouri, and the Gateway Arch in St. Louis. To address issues of the mill's deteriorating condition, Rivers of Steel staff will work with contractors to stabilize, restore, and assemble the mill. As a part of the project, staff will develop new interpretive materials as well as digitize and make available online archival material associated with the mill, including historic documentation, oral histories, and photographs. As a result of the project, visitors and researchers will have increased access to the mill.
