The Queens Museum of Art will carry out a conservation project for The Panorama of the City of New York, a large-scale model of New York City that was built for the 1964-1965 New York World's Fair. The model was created by more than 100 artisans, covers an area of 9,335 square feet, and contains 895,000 buildings. Project activities will include an overall assessment of the model's 272 panels as well as repainting and reinforcement of the structural support. Conservators will also repair the lighting system within the model, which codes for different building functions. When restored, the model will be a resource for historians and researchers of New York City history.
