Society to Preserve the Millvale Murals of Maxo Vanka

The Society to Preserve the Millvale Murals of Maxo Vanka will use funds to conserve, interpret, and promote the Maxo Vanka murals collection at St. Nicholas Croatian Catholic Church in Millvale, PA. The collection, consisting of 25 water-soluble paintings that nearly cover the entirety of the building's interior, suffered damages over time due to water infiltration in the church walls via failing roofing systems. Part of a longer-term, comprehensive conservation effort, the major goals of this project are to restore and preserve nine wall and ceiling murals, to repair three murals, and to ensure that interior temperature and humidity conditions are mitigated such that the murals will remain stable for the long term.
