Louis Armstrong House Museum

Log Number: ST-252519-OMS-22

The Louis Armstrong House Museum will preserve a little-known aspect of the renowned jazz musician’s legacy: a collection of collages that Louis Armstrong created out of photographs, newspaper clippings, correspondence, and other ephemera on-hand in his Queens, New York home. Project activities will include the stabilization of 77 of the 700 collages that Armstrong made, including documenting, cleaning, removing stains and old tape, and mending as necessary, so that the collages can be displayed and shared with the public. The collages are among the most frequently requested items by scholars, researchers, and organizations interested in producing exhibitions about Armstrong’s life.
