Friends of the Texas Historical Commission

The Friends of the Texas Historical Commission will use funds to rehouse unprocessed or partially processed legacy archeological collections stored at the Collections Facility for Artifact Research. The collections are the result of excavations at three National Register properties: Fanthorp Inn State Historic Site; Varner-Hogg State Historic Site; and San Felipe de Austin State Historic Site. The 2,000 boxes of artifacts and field records highlight the period of Anglo settlement in what was at the time Mexico. Staff will work with consulting subject matter experts to analyze the archeological collections and develop print and recorded instructional guides for specific materials in the collection. A consultant will also coordinate and train volunteers to organize and better identify the collections, thus making them more accessible.
