Herschell Carrousel Factory Museum
Log Number: ST-252514-OMS-22
The Carousel Society of the Niagara Frontier will complete the restoration of a rare carousel that is housed at the Herschell Carousel Factory Museum in North Tonawanda, New York. Project activities will include the restoration of six center panels with original painted landscape scenes modeled on imagery from Allen Herschell Company catalogs and extant carousels, and the restoration and decorative painting of 14 rounding boards. The work will be led by a carousel restoration artist with support from local artists and a trained restoration team. This particular carousel is believed to be the first to be delivered from the Allan Herschell Company factory in 1916, with horses three-abreast and the outer row carved as jumping horses, representing an innovation at the time.
