Woodlawn Conservancy

Log Number: ST-251097-OMS-21

The Woodlawn Conservancy will conserve five works of memorial art decorating late 19th century tombs located on the grounds of Woodlawn Cemetery. The selected mosaics, made of tile and glass, were created by artists and architects such as Giovanni Morosini, Tiffany Studios, McKim Mead & White Architects, and the Guastavino Company. An architectural conservator will supervise and coordinate the project with a team of graduate students from historic preservation programs and apprentices from Woodlawn’s Bridge to Crafts Careers program. Established in 2015, this program is a collaborative effort with the World Monuments Fund, through which underserved youth (18-24) are trained for careers in masonry restoration. The team will address missing tiles, delamination of panels, and the removal of efflorescence from ceramic and glass surfaces.
