Log Number: ST-251088-OMS-21
The John J. Wilcox, Jr. Archives of the William Way LGBT Community Center will preserve display boards from five historically significant information booths designed by Barbara Gittings (1932-2007), a pioneering leader of the gay rights movement in the United States. Four ephemeral booths were part of the annual conferences of the American Psychiatric Association and the American Library Association (ALA) during the 1970s and were presented in tandem with panels, presentations, and activism that helped shaped the gay rights movement. A fifth booth is from a 2007 commemorative display at the ALA. The project will support the assessment, stabilization, and preservation of 36 display boards and signs from these booths for digitization and archival storage as well as future handling in research and exhibitions.
