Alice Austen House Museum
Log Number: ST-251085-OMS-21
The Friends of Alice Austen House will increase public access to a portion of the paper-based collection located at the Alice Austen House Museum on Staten Island. The project goals are to highlight the importance of Austen’s photographic work and expand the available historical record of LGBTQ artists active during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The project team will inventory, re-accession, catalog, rehouse and digitize a portion of the collection’s paper-based artifacts. These materials include an extensive letter collection, Victorian calling cards which highlight social conventions of the time and connect to the key subjects in Austen’s photographs, and notated negative sleeves of Austen’s work.
