Brooklyn Public Library
Log Number: RE-95-17-0046-17
Brooklyn Public Library (BPL) will create a pre-professional internship program that will engage 180 diverse high school students in learning about the field of library and information services through hands-on work experience at the system's 59 branches. The three-tiered, sequential, paid internship program will include a six-month school-year program (Tier 1), a two-month summer program (Tier 2) and a nine-month peer-leadership program (Tier 3). Students will learn about careers in the library profession through work experiences, educational workshops, and career exploration that promotes the many facets of librarianship from public service to information technology to strategic planning. BPL staff will serve as mentors to the students and will also provide trainings on financial literacy, college and career readiness, and life skills.
