New York University’s grant will support its Moving Image Archiving and Preservation program, which will educate library professionals in caring for collections on film. The project will provide paid internships for 30 students working in major film collections around the country. Working professionals also will receive formal training in audiovisual collection care, assessment, and management through workshops hosted by the Metropolitan New York Library Council and the American Library Association’s Video Roundtable. Much of the cultural record of the 20th century is held on film, and special skills are needed to preserve it.
