The University of North Texas Department of Information Science will develop and deploy an online, immersive health sciences librarianship fellowship training program to build the competencies of library and information science (LIS) graduate students and early career librarians. Despite the critical need of health sciences librarians to enhance the quality delivery of health care, there are few opportunities for individuals to specialize in this type of librarianship. As a result of this project, 20 individuals will increase their competence in health sciences librarianship through this specialized summer training. Additionally, the project team will develop openly accessible training materials to educate entry-level health sciences librarians, which could be used by LIS master’s programs and professional associations to enhance their curricula in this area. This project works to fill the present need for qualified health sciences librarians in varied work settings across the country.
