Old Dominion University and Texas Woman’s University will research and develop a model of information literacy instruction integrating social-emotional literacy and cultural humility with traditional information literacy (IL) skills. The team will investigate how library and information science (LIS) faculty are currently addressing psychosocial, emotional, and cultural factors of IL within their curricula; how current secondary school library practitioners are addressing the same factors in IL instruction; and what resources and training provided in LIS curricula would prepare practitioners to integrate a model of IL instruction that addresses these factors. The intended outcomes of this project are a theoretical model of IL instruction addressing psychosocial, emotional, and cultural factors; best practice recommendations in applying the model for both LIS curricula and current secondary school library IL instruction practitioners; and suggestions for developing open-access content modules integrating the model and best practices that can be shared across institutions and LIS programs.
