Western Michigan University
Log Number: RE-254920-OLS-23
Western Michigan University, in collaboration with the Library of Michigan, will create and pilot a professional development curriculum and library programming around media literacy and news literacy with Michigan libraries. This project offers public library staff training and professional development (PD) in media literacy and news literacy designed to support middle schoolers. The project team, along with a 14-member cohort of public library staff, will co-create a PD program that addresses the need for education in these literacies and will be organized around a successful exhibit designed for middle school library use called Wonder Media. After participating in the workshop, the public library cohort will work closely with the interdisciplinary project team to continue PD and training and will inform the design, testing, and implementation of media literacy and news literacy PD and programming. The pilot project in Michigan will result in prototype training modules, resources, and programming for libraries nationwide.
