West Chester University (FHG Library)

Log Number: RE-252357-OLS-22

West Chester University, in collaboration with Stanford University, the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC), and other consultants, will organize a virtual national open forum with data experts from diverse backgrounds and industries alongside academic librarians to share their perspectives on identifying and evaluating data quality. The project team will create a white paper, infographic guides of a synthesized data evaluation strategy, and a website to share forum deliverables. This project will help raise academic librarian awareness of data quality problems, fill their knowledge gaps, and build their capacity and confidence in teaching data evaluation, critical thinking about data, and data literacy. The project also will demonstrate libraries’ impact on educating data-literate citizens, improving the quality and integrity of scholarly output, reducing the social and economic costs caused by data quality issues, and improving the quality of data-driven decision-making. As subrecipients, Stanford University will provide subject matter expertise, including essential perspectives for developing the synthesized data evaluation strategy and project deliverables; UIUC will support a graduate student to assist in all project activities.
