The University of Colorado Boulder University Libraries and Department of Cinema Studies and Moving Image Arts will create and implement an experiential curriculum for undergraduate students in media archiving and preservation. The “Experiential Curriculum in Media Archiving and Preservation” project will integrate audiovisual preservation training into undergraduate film and media studies coursework to address the growing demand for audiovisual archiving and preservation professionals, while opening the field to a wider, more diverse population of students. The program includes coursework in media preservation and archiving in the Department of Cinema Studies; fellowship training within the University of Colorado Boulder Libraries Rare and Distinctive Collections; and a community-oriented internship program that provides students with self-directed professional projects while serving the media preservation needs of diverse community and heritage organizations in the area. They will produce a white paper and a series of open educational resources to facilitate wide replication of these activities at other regional undergraduate institutions.
