The University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Library and Information Studies’ Convening Great Lakes Culture Keepers project supports the professional development needs of library and information studies (LIS) students and tribal cultural professionals through expansion of service learning partnerships and continuing education, including a multiday, regional institute for librarians, archivists, and museum curators. The project benefits both LIS students, who lack opportunities to learn about and engage with American Indian needs, and tribal professionals, who have limited access to training and technical expertise. The project will result in a model for developing a diverse network, more knowledgeable and confident practitioners, and curriculum materials for tribal information professionals throughout the United States.
