Lili Luo, Assistant Professor, San Jose School of Library and Information Science, will use this Early Career Development grant to conduct research regarding text messaging as a platform for providing virtual reference services. Luo will explore how libraries can provide text reference service and if it helps libraries engage new users. The study will use data available via InfoQuest, a multistate text reference collaborative. Results will establish a solid understanding of the text reference user community and provide a roadmap for libraries interested in using texting.
