Scientific research is generating huge amounts of data that must be managed and preserved, and there is a need for professionals who specialize in this important work. To help educate this new generation of science librarians, Syracuse University will recruit six doctoral students and provide them with an education, stressing research in issues related to e-science librarianship or data curation. Upon graduation, these future professors will then be placed in schools of library and information science nationwide to train science librarians and data curators. Syracuse will also disseminate its curricular materials to other library and information science programs, helping them produce future faculty with this specialization.
