REFORMA

Log Number: RE-00-17-0130-17

REFORMA received a Laura Bush 21st Century National Forum Grant for activities designed to examine and explore the recruitment and retention of individuals interested in Latinx topics to the library profession. Latinx is an inclusive word used as a gender-neutral or non-binary alternative to Latino and Latina. New approaches are needed to attract and encourage more people who are knowledgeable about Latinx populations to choose librarianship as a viable career choice. Activities include a virtual discussion forum led by six experts and LIS educators to review and discuss current recruitment efforts; travel scholarships for 20 people to the 6th REFORMA National Conference (RNCVI); an open forum session about recruitment, retention, and leadership; webinars on best practices in serving Latinx and Spanish speaking communities; and a forum at ALA Annual in New Orleans to present and summarize the year-long activities and offer new insights into the area of recruitment and retention of a diverse library workforce.
