Our long-term goal is to make 3D models more available, discoverable, and usable in conjunction with textbooks and other curricular material teachers are already using. Based on a long-term, multi-level approach that includes creating a 3D model repository, exploring a distributed network of resources in existing community maker spaces, and providing tools and technology that ensure these models are fully accessible, the primary objectives for this initiative are to: 1. Survey and understand existing efforts in 3D printing technology and services for accessible materials; 2. Design an effective partnership model with involvement from key stakeholder groups, such as educators, accessibility experts, and informal learning spaces like libraries and museums; 3. Develop resources to promote understanding of 3D printing’s capabilities and how it fits into the larger set of tools for providing accessible materials for students with visual impairments.
