Koniag, Inc.

Koniag, Inc. (Alutiiq Museum & Archaeological Repository and Koniag Cultural Library) will implement the “Liigwik—Learning Place” project, designed to expand the size of library space to evolve into a learning center with public hours, ample shelving, and comfortable workspaces. The goal of this project is to advance cultural stewardship by connecting audiences of all ages and heritages with the Alutiiq world. Improving the accessibility of the KCL’s Alutiiq heritage-focused collections and encouraging their use through promotion and programming will encourage cultural learning. Transforming the Koniag Cultural Library into a learning center will improve the collection’s ability to support cultural education and the Alutiiq Museum & Archaeological Repository’s mission, as well as advance the identified community need for public spaces to explore Alutiiq heritage.
