Log Number: MP-00-11-0018-11

The Huntington Library, Art Collections and Botanical Gardens will improve the exhibition development skills of 110 informal educators at public gardens, science centers, and children’s museums. A series of five intensive week-long workshops will help 50 museum professionals develop plant-centered exhibitions for museums with living plant collections. Workshop activities will include small group projects, lectures, critical discussions, visits to the Huntington and other exhibitions, drafting exhibit criteria and labels, developing exhibit prototypes, and interacting with visitors and working exhibits. Day-long seminars will target a regional audience of 60 museum professionals, with lectures, critical discussions, and reviews of current research on living collections and exhibition practice. The workshops and seminar participants will improve their understanding of all of the phases of exhibit development, with a goal of creating exhibitions that will increase the scientific, environmental, and visual literacy of their audiences.
