Central Council of Tlingit and Haida Indian Tribes

The Central Council Tlingit and Haida Indian Tribes of Alaska will support ongoing collections care and access efforts for historic sacred and ceremonial items that have been repatriated to the Tribe. The project will enable the purchase of museum supplies and high-quality protective cases so the repatriated objects can be safely transported to cultural events in their respective Southeast Alaskan communities. Project funds will also support the Tribe's cultural resources specialist, who is responsible for the caretaking and transport of these objects, some of which date to the 1800's and earlier. As a result of this project, Tlingit and Haida peoples of Southeast Alaska will have increased access to their cultural items, helping preserve and perpetuate traditional ceremonies and lifeways, while the items themselves will be better protected for future generations.
