Koniag, Inc. will design and publish a book that celebrates the living artistic traditions of the Kodiak Alutiiq people by sharing the contemporary Native art collections of two community museums – the Alutiiq Museum and the Kodiak History Museum. The project team will identify artists and artworks for inclusion in the book, photograph and process images, obtain use permissions, research and write artist biographies and short essays, and design the layout. Upon publication, 1000 copies will be printed and distributed for free throughout the community and a digital copy will be shared on the Alutiiq Museum's website. The resulting book will illustrate the rich artistic traditions of Alutiiq history, culture, and experience, while supporting Native artists, increasing public awareness of contemporary Native arts, and enhancing the documentation of these collections.
