Peoria Tribe of Indians of Oklahoma
Log Number: MN-251881-OMS-22
The Peoria Tribe of Indians of Oklahoma will design and fabricate an exhibit for display at the Dickson Mounds Museum in Lewistown, Illinois, to tell the story of the Emiquon Preserve and its significance to the Tribe. Scenes depicting the evolution of the preserve from a natural wetland that supported generations of Tribal ancestors within their original homelands, to being drained and turned into farmland, to its eventual rebirth as an internationally significant protected wetland, will enable the Tribe to showcase their heritage in their own words. The resulting exhibit will invite local residents and visitors from across the nation to view and experience the Emiquon Preserve with a deeper understanding of the cultural significance, beauty, and resourcefulness of the area.
