The Oneida Nation of Wisconsin’s Oneida Nation Museum will use grant funds for the conservation of objects, the establishment of a records management department, and for training of staff in archival methodologies. Project activities will include (1) hiring a conservator for the restoration and conservation of a notable six-foot life-size man made of cornhusks, as well as traditional handmade black ash baskets; (2) completing a strategic plan to address the needs of a records management department and archives department; and (3) bringing in a consultant to provide training in archival methodologies for paper objects (newspapers, letters, personal records, scrapbooks, pamphlets, brochures, booklets, postcards, annuity checks, tribal role and census records, government school record books), multimedia objects (VHS cassettes, cassette tapes, records, reel-to-reels, DVDs), and books in the collection.
