Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians

The Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians will use its funding to develop a functioning archive at the tribe’s Eyaawing Museum and Cultural Center in accordance with the Recommendations for Eyaawing Archives Preservation Planning report dated September 2009. The project will allow the museum to hire a full-time curator/archivist who will work to develop policies and procedures and a strategic plan for the archives and catalog Eyaawing’s collections. Furthermore, the museum will work with other Grand Traverse Band managers to consolidate tribally significant documents and gather documents from other community members. The project aims to increase cultural awareness of the community and plan for the future and sustainability of the archive.
