Makah Indian Tribe

The Makah Tribe of Washington will use its grant to fund the Ozette Exhibit Upgrade Project. The Makah Cultural and Research Center’s collections, and the exhibit space in which they are housed, need careful cleaning and upgrading. The project will be staffed by Makah individuals who have recently been trained to assess, handle, and clean the pre-contact artifacts. The team will clean 500 artifacts, clean and repaint the white display blocks, reprint and replace 350 artifact labels, reapply polyethylene glycol to the surface of several artifacts, and replace several artifacts on display with more complete artifacts of the same type.
