Bishop Indian Tribal Council

Log Number: MN-03-10-0009-10

The Paiute Shoshone Indians of the Bishop Community will begin a project to identify and organize the cultural items currently under the tribe’s control and housed in the community’s Cultural Center, which reopened to the public in May 2010. Cultural items will be inventoried, catalogued, photographed, and digitized using museum collection software, resulting in a cultural database accessible to a public audience. Staff will be trained in the proper maintenance of the database and will develop public access policies and procedures. The public will learn how to effectively use and search the database through hired tribal elders who will serve as museum tour guides along with public workshops. This project will provide the Paiute community centralized access to resources of Paiute culture, language, history, and traditions.
