Chilkat Indian Village

The Chilkat Indian Village will form a project team of tribal members and museum experts who will apply a systematic approach using best practices to inventory and document our tribe's artifacts, and plan to preserve them. A conservation assessment will be conducted and emergency conservation attended to by professional conservators. With the guidance of museum consultants, the project team, clan leaders and village leaders will develop policies and begin exhibit planning for the proposed Jilkaat Kwaan Cultural Heritage Center. The conservation and exhibit plans created will lay out next steps to assure that Chilkat Tlingit artifacts will not only be preserved, but that objects displayed will be actively appreciated as connections to artistic and cultural roots and as sources of information.
