Hopi Tribe
Log Number: MN-03-08-0007-08
The Hopi Tribe has been gifted the Beehouwer Collection of Fine Arts, a collection of over 800 pieces of Native American artwork including jewelry, pottery, basketry, paintings, textiles, and other works, primarily from the Hopi Tribe. They will use grant funds to document and properly house this collection at the Museum of Northern Arizona in nearby Flagstaff until such time as the Hopi Tribe can build and staff its own Tribal Museum. The proposed inventory, documentation, storage on open shelving, and conservation assessment will serve two purposes: 1) The Hopi Tribe will be able to plan for housing the collection in proper cabinetry, and 2) the Hopi Tribe will make the collection accessible to tribal members and the general public for study, display, and interpretation through loans to MNA and other museums.
