Log Number: MN-02-11-0029-11
The Wiyot Tribe will use grant funds for a project titled Collectively Caring for Collections: An Exchange of Knowledge. The goals of the project are to promote, implement, and maintain professional leadership, and to develop tribal capacity in tribal collections management and care that integrates traditional and professional museum-standard approaches within the Cultural Heritage Center. Related curriculum and workshops will be developed, in conjunction with local traditional ceremonial dance leaders and the Smithsonian’s National Museum of the American Indian staff, to inform an integrated approach to collections management and basic conservation care that serves both the needs of the Wiyot community and the requirements of a repository. Workshops will be provided to cultural center interns, Wiyot citizens, and other stewards of local tribal collections.
