Swinomish Indian Tribal Community

The Swinomish Indian Tribe will use its grant to fund “Swinomish Journeys,” a permanent outdoor exhibit which will tell the tribe’s story from ancestral times through present day in a variety of ways, focusing on seven key themes. The exhibit will provide a long-term gathering point where generations of community members and visitors will learn about and reflect on yearly cycles of Swinomish life and cultural celebration. The site will host numerous cultural events, including Swinomish’s War Chief Canoe Club’s annual races and the tribe’s annual Blessing of the Fleet. Furthermore, it will serve as a place for tribal elders to meet with tribal children and schoolchildren from outlying communities to share stories about life from the Swinomish perspective.
