PA'I Foundation will use funds to support the Mo'olelo Storytelling Festival, a performing arts project to showcase the creation and performance of new Native Hawaiian storytelling works - narrative, oli (chants), mele (songs), and hula (dances). From August through December 2015, and again in 2016, the project will bring together storytellers, composers, kumu hula (master teachers of Hawaiian chant and dance) and scholars who will research archival materials and Honolulu Museum of Art collections related to the islands to create a permanent body of six to eight new place-based performances which paint a vivid picture of the stories and history of important sites of Hawaii from ancient times to the present. These works in progress, in addition to completed projects, will be presented to the public during the three-day Mo'olelo Storytelling Festival at the Honolulu Museum of Art's Doris Duke Theatre in February 2016 and 2017.
