Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe

The Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe will create a complete inventory and cataloging system for the Wampanoag Museum collection and increase the staff capacity in collections management. In order to accomplish these goals, the tribe will inventory approximately 1,500 collection artifacts for basic information such as location and overall condition reports. Collections will be categorized and assigned accession numbers prior to being logged into a collections database. One part-time, temporary collections management consultant and one full-time, temporary tribal member trainee in collections management will be hired to see these activities through to completion. Project results will be shared with the tribal community, researchers, and museum visitors. A report by project staff will be published in the tribal newsletter and uploaded on the tribal website at the end of the project period.
