The Ziibiwing Center of Anishinabe Culture and Lifeways is the cultural learning center of the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe of Michigan. This project will expand and improve its research center, specifically focusing on preserving and disseminating the tribe's language to its community members. The cultural center will make it a priority to record and archive the tribe's three remaining Anishinabe-language speakers. These recordings will form the foundation for a new language center/listening lab. In addition, the tribe will sponsor monthly gatherings for community members interested in learning the Anishinabe language, to increase the understanding that preserving their language will enhance the tribe's cultural identity.
