Partners in Development Foundation-a nonprofit Native Hawaiian foundation with a focus on early childhood education, curriculum development, Hawaiian language education, environmental, and marine science projects of direct applicability to the Native Hawaiian population of Hawaii-will collaborate with the Mission Houses Museum on Baibala Hemolele-Ka Mano Wai (The Hawaiian Bible Translation project). This grant will enable the organization to hire a researcher skilled in fluent Hawaiian, as well as Greek, Hebrew, and 19th-century Hawaiian history and culture, to undertake a survey of the Translation Workbooks (1820-1840) and other related materials housed in the Mission Houses Museum collection. The final report will make recommendations on preservation and dissemination through digitization in order to make this unique material available to the public.
