Colville Confederated Tribes

The Confederated Tribes of the Colville Reservation in Nespelem, WA, has embarked upon the planning of the Tiwiyekinwes Culture Center. Tiwiyekinwes, meaning The Place of Gathered Ancient Teachings, was selected by the planning committee to recognize the importance of preserving the memory of Chief Joseph, who is buried on the reservation. Phase I of the planning process included land acquisition and the production of site renderings for the cultural center, as well as the composition of a tribal Cultural Preservation Plan and an Exhibit Concept Plan. This grant will allow the tribe to hire an exhibit planning consultant to design the cultural center's exhibition space.
