The Cherokee Nation, in partnership with the Rogers County Cherokee Association (RCCA), will use this grant to strengthen museum services by providing cultural public programming and instruction in Cherokee crafts and lifeways. The RCCA is located approximately 70 miles south of the tribal complex where the majority of cultural programming takes place, and cultural experts in the area are scattered. The RCCA has purchased eight acres of land to be used as a cultural grounds, and plans to construct a stickball and marbles field there. Working through local Cherokee cultural experts at the Cherokee Heritage Center, the Cherokee Nation will provide the RCCA with stickball and marble experts who will assist with the design and fabrication of the fields and train RCCA members in traditional game rules. These experts will also assist with the construction of blow guns, stickballs, Cherokee marbles, and other traditional game equipment.
