Purpose: Reaching Families and Children The Dutchess County Historical Society (DCHS) will use funding to support a collaborative effort with the Mid-Hudson children's Museum (MHCM). DCHS strives to bring local/regional history to families and children through a pilot project with MHCM. Interpretation of local history will be made possible through the use of age-appropriate technology ranging from simple hand-held devices and visual and instructional activities to interactive exhibits, computer programs, Web sites, etc. During the first half of the project, the partners will (1) develop a joint plan, (2) audit existing technologies/resources, (3) prioritize subject matter for future education programs, (4) launch a DCHS Web site and, (5) draft long-term plans. In year two, the partners will plan and implement enhancements to the DCHS trunks and the MCHM Constitution exhibit. History educational efforts growing from these programs will be analyzed. This two-year alliance will enable DCHS to meet its goal of community and Web-based education and outreach.
