Purpose: Expanding Educational Services During 2004, North Carolina will commemorate the official Year of the North Carolina Craft, the Penland School of Crafts will celebrate its 75th anniversary, and the Mint Museum of Craft + Design will turn five. The Museum will present an exhibition in recognition of Penland's history and excellence in craft teaching. It will focus on the importance of object making in America and Penland's role in the development of craft education. The exhibit will travel to several other venues in the United States after leaving Charlotte. The museum's educational services relating to the Penland will be expanded through the use of an interpretive Web site. The site will enhance the objects on display and, among other things, provide curricula for teachers and students in North Carolina and in other host cities. It will also provide a lasting learning tool for craft enthusiasts long after the exhibit has ended.
