Purpose: Expanding Educational Services The Herbert F. Johnson Museum of Art-Cornell University will use the grant to support the expansion of educational services to develop a broader understanding of Asian art. The Museum will employ several methods to achieve this goal. Visitors will be encouraged to use a variety of technological means--palm pilots, audio guides, and interactive computer program--to learn about Asian art. The museum's educational outreach services will also expand to rural public schools through the Objects and Their Makers: New Insights (OMNI) program. For example, staff will develop a new interactive OMNI unit on Tibetan art for third graders at the Dryen Middle School. Monks from the nearby Namgyl Monastary will also work with schools and the public on an exhibit about Tibetan art. The Museum will also host a series of special family programs to engage the community and to encourage the use of new technologies.
