Purpose: Expanding Educational Services This grant will strengthen and support the Peabody Fellows Biodiversity and Human Health Program of the Peabody Museum of Natural History. The museum has collaborated for five years with the New Haven Public School (NHPS) District on the professional development initiative. Participating teachers attend a summer institute, participate in a number of workshops, and produce inquiry-based science curricula that use Peabody Museum specimens in a mobile "BioAction Lab" for hands-on exploration of biological diversity and its impacts on human health. The program, described by the NHPS science supervisor as "one of the most exciting science curricular projects that the district has ever seen," will target New Haven fourth through eighth grade teachers and students, and selected teachers from surrounding areas.
