South Coast Rallroad Museum

Purpose: Expanding Educational Services This grant will fund the development of a Visitor Center at the South Coast Railroad Museum, creating a new, permanent educational facility for the institution. The focus of the Visitor Center will be the Goleta Depot, a National Register property and the museum's centerpiece. The Center will blend traditional and modern technological educational methods toward two purposes: to expand and strengthen the interpretive and educational programs and services at the Museum; and to provide a single convenient, visitor-friendly hub that will bring services together in one place. The target audience for the Center is all visitors to the Museum, and the Center will serve them through its three components: a Gateway Exhibition; an Information Desk; and an Electronic Kiosk. This project has been developed from several related elements in the museum's long-range Plan, and implementation of it will increase the museum's ability to serve its audience.
